POS displays for eyewear: 2026 guide (displays, window and brand)

An eyewear shop sells visual health, but it also sells desire. Glasses are the only health product a customer wears on their face all day long, in full view of everyone. That is why an opticians is, at once, a consultation room and a fashion boutique. And it is at that crossroads that POS displays decide whether a frame stays in the cabinet or walks out of the store.

The challenge of the point of sale in eyewear is that two very different logics coexist: that of the technical product, which is tried on and adjusted, and that of the impulse product —sunglasses— bought on image and season. This guide is the complete map for understanding eyewear POS displays in 2026: the selling zones, the display formats and how the brand takes centre stage on the shelf. At Atamark we have spent more than 14 years manufacturing POS displays for the eyewear channel from Parets del Vallès, and we work with you from the first idea to the in-store installation.

1. Why an opticians is not just any retail

Four traits make eyewear POS displays a case apart:

  • The product is tried on. Nobody buys glasses without looking in the mirror. The display does more than show: it has to invite the customer to pick up the frame and try it on. Accessibility rules.
  • High unit value. A premium frame or pair of sunglasses costs as much as a dinner for several. That calls for a POS display that conveys care and, for sunglasses, that builds in anti-theft security.
  • Health and fashion at once. The opticians sells prescription eyewear (health, trust, advice) and sun (fashion, impulse, brand). The same space communicates two opposite messages.
  • The season factor. Sunglasses concentrate much of their sales into a few months. The POS display has to be set up, rotated and dismantled in step with the campaign.

2. The selling zones of an opticians

Each zone serves a purpose and calls for a different POS display. Treating the opticians as a single space is the most common mistake:

ZonePurposeRecommended POS display
WindowCatch the passer-by, communicate campaign and brandWindow display, seasonal graphics, featured-frame stand
Prescription wallOrderly display to try on and compare framesWall panel, open cabinet, countertop display
Sun zoneSeasonal impulse, fast rotation, high valueRotating tower, brand display, lockable cabinet
Brand cornerBuild desire and set a label apartBrand unit, dedicated lighting, campaign graphics
Counter / closingCross-selling: solutions, cases, second pairCounter display, accessories display

An opticians’ window is its best salesperson: most visits start with a frame spotted from the street. And the counter is where the average basket is won with accessories and the second pair.

3. Which type of display for each objective

A rotating tower to turn over plenty of sun product in little space, a lockable cabinet for high-value frames, a wall panel to organise a prescription collection, a brand unit to build a corner, a counter display for the cross-sell at the close. The choice depends on the zone, the value of the product and whether the action is permanent or seasonal.

4. Sunglasses: the seasonal star product

This is where POS displays have the most scope and also the most demands. There is complete freedom to communicate the brand and create desire, but also a concentrated peak in demand, very high rotation and a risk of theft that means thinking about security without sacrificing appeal. A well-lit sun tower at the right height converts far better than a closed, dark cabinet where the customer cannot try anything on.

5. The brand inside the opticians

In eyewear, the label matters: customers recognise and desire brands. A well-resolved brand corner —with its own unit, lighting and graphics— lifts the perception of the whole store and sets the opticians apart from the chain next door. For eyewear brands, that corner is the way to be present at the point of sale with coherence, rather than dissolving into a generic shelf. It is the same principle as in premium perfumery or cosmetics: when the product is desire, the display is part of the product.

6. Sustainable eyewear POS displays

The eyewear customer values detail and quality, and that increasingly includes the sustainability of everything around them in the store. FSC and PEFC certified materials, water-based inks and reusable modular formats let you refresh the sun campaign each season without creating fresh waste every time. A display that is updated rather than thrown away is better for the brand and for the bottom line.

Frequently asked questions

What are POS displays for opticians?

They are the set of displays and point-of-sale communication elements designed for an opticians: window displays, sunglasses towers, prescription cabinets and panels, brand corners and counter displays. Their job is to organise the display, make it easy to try the product on and reinforce the brand in every zone of the store.

Which display sells the most sunglasses?

A well-lit rotating tower at eye level performs best in season, because it concentrates plenty of product in little space and lets people try comfortably. For premium frames, a lockable cabinet protects high-value product without giving up visibility.

Can a sun campaign’s POS display be reused for the next one?

Yes, and it is the sensible choice. A modular display lets you change only the graphics and the product each season while keeping the structure. It cuts the cost per campaign and the waste generated. We cover it in the guide to reusable and modular POS displays.
